To Know Him Is To Love Him - Live - Amy Winehouse

Hi everyone and welcome to a new tutorial! Today, we’re diving into another acoustic cover: To Know Him Is To Love Him by the Teddy Bears, in the beautiful live rendition by Amy Winehouse, featured on the deluxe edition of Back to Black. A real gem for fans and guitar lovers alike.

If you’ve been looking for a song to practice your barre chords, well — you’ve found it! To be honest, I’m pretty sure the guitar used in the original performance is a classical guitar (and most likely played with a pick), which makes sense — playing this many barres on a steel-string acoustic can be quite painful, and that definitely shows in a few moments of my tutorial. Still, for consistency’s sake, I stick with my usual fingerstyle acoustic approach.

From a technical standpoint, the left hand doesn’t require any particular attention apart from holding those barres solidly. On the right hand, however, the picking pattern is a great opportunity to practice the thumb-index-middle-ring-middle-index sequence, especially if you’ve never worked on it before. As for the two short riffs with hammer-ons, feel free to use whatever finger combinations feel most natural to you.
