Pancakes for Dinner - Lizzy McAlpine
Hi everyone, and welcome to this new guitar tutorial! Today, for the very first time, we're going to learn a song by Lizzy McAlpine — my personal favorite: Pancakes for Dinner. This beautiful stripped-back version for guitar and voice is available only on YouTube, and here’s the link for you!
This song is a great opportunity to practice right-hand double stops. The most comfortable way to play them is by using your index and middle fingers, but if you're looking to strengthen your ring finger, you can also try the middle-ring combination — this tune is perfect for that. Another interesting feature is that the top two strings are almost never used, except for the very last chord where we’ll play the open second string. For the rest of the piece, everything happens on the lower four strings. More specifically, the thumb will take care of the fifth and sixth strings, while the double stops will be played with the index and middle fingers on the third and fourth strings.
As for the left hand, I tried to replicate Lizzy’s fingerings as closely as possible based on her performance in the video. This also turns out to be the smoothest way to move from one chord to another, making transitions more fluid and natural.
You can find the tabs on my Patreon page, as always. Have fun learning!
