Pretty Things - Big Thief

Hello everyone, and welcome to this new tutorial! Since you enjoyed the tutorial for Indiana so much, today I’m bringing you another song by Adrianne Lenker with her band Big Thief: Pretty Things, the opening track from their album Capacity.

Overall, the song has a very steady, flowing rhythm. Each 3/4 measure is made up of six eighth notes, meaning that most of the notes throughout the song have the same duration. Let’s dive into the details for each hand.

For the right hand, in all sections except the chorus, I went with this approach: thumb for the notes on the fifth string, index for the notes on the fourth, middle for the notes on the third, and ring finger for the open second string. For the chorus, you can choose whichever fingering feels most comfortable.

For the left hand, however, I strongly recommend following exactly the same fingering I use, as it makes the transitions between positions much smoother. Again, the chorus is the only exception here—you have more freedom to experiment with fingerings in that section.

As always, you can find the tabs on my Patreon page. Have fun learning!
