Shine - Benjamin Francis Leftwich

Hi everyone, and welcome to this third tutorial featuring a song by Benjamin Francis Leftwich—this time, it’s Shine!

Let’s jump straight into some tips for both hands. Starting with the left hand: as you’ll see in the video, the index finger holds down the first fret of the second string and acts as a sort of pivot throughout most of the song. The ring finger then moves around to play the third fret on the fourth, fifth, and sixth strings. The other two fingers mostly stay out of the way, except for the very last chord where the middle finger joins in on the second fret of the fourth string.

Now for the right hand. Here too, two fingers remain pretty static—the middle finger consistently plucks the second string, and the index takes care of the third. The thumb, on the other hand, is much more active, playing across the bottom three strings. It’s only on the final chord that we bring all four fingers into action.

As always, you can find the tabs on my Patreon page. Have fun learning the song!
