Love is All - The Tallest Man On Earth
Hi everyone, and welcome to what is, so far, the most challenging tutorial I’ve published—naturally, it’s a song by The Tallest Man On Earth: Love is All.
As is often the case with his music, I think the biggest obstacle here is the speed. That’s not to say what the hands are doing is easy, but once you understand the mechanics, especially of the fretting hand, it tends to flow on its own.
Let’s start with the right hand. The thumb plays a crucial role here, laying down the bass line that acts as the backbone of the entire song. I suggest starting with just the thumb part before adding the higher notes. If you're not comfortable plucking the fifth and sixth strings at the same time, it's perfectly fine to play just the sixth. Use your index finger for the notes on the third string, your middle finger for the first and second strings, and only bring in the ring finger as an alternative to the middle when it feels more comfortable.
As for the left hand, I’ve chosen to make more use of the thumb, which I find particularly helpful when playing around the higher frets. The song includes various hammer-ons and pull-offs. If these don’t come naturally right away, my advice is to begin by playing just the base note, then gradually add the embellishments as you gain confidence. Other than that, the chords themselves shouldn't cause too much trouble—they're fairly standard shapes.
You’ll find the tabs, as always, on my Patreon page. Have fun learning!
