i won’t back down - figuers

I recently discovered figuers, a chilled acoustic covers project by Embleton and Jacob Montague, thanks to a friend’s recommendation, and it’s been a regular listen ever since.

Their songs feature stripped-down guitar melodies paired with warm, muffled harmonizing vocals, creating the perfect vibe for unwinding. I even added three of their covers to my Best Acoustic Covers playlist: I Won’t Back Down, Safe and Sound, and Kids.

Of the three, their take on Tom Petty’s hit I Won’t Back Down has become my favorite, mainly because of the unique contrast between the song’s relaxed vibe and the power of its message. In fact, the artists approached this classic from a fresh perspective: rather than leaning into the high-energy, full-band sound that the lyrics might suggest, they focused on capturing a quiet resolve—the kind that whispers, “I won’t give up,” even when running on empty. The result is a beautifully understated interpretation of triumph.
