Virginia Moon - Foo Fighters

Hey everyone, and welcome to this new tutorial! Today, I’m bringing you a song that is a true gem for Foo Fighters fans: Virginia Moon. Not only does it feature a beautiful bossa nova arrangement, but the female vocals you hear are none other than Norah Jones, making this track even more special.

Now, let’s get into the details. If all those little upside-down half-moons in the tabs look intimidating, don’t worry! They’re simply slurs, which I don’t usually include in my tablatures since I prefer to keep them as clean as possible. However, given the bossa nova rhythm of this piece, it was essential to add them. The pauses are just as important too! If you’re struggling with the notation, try relying more on your ear than your eyes — it will make everything much clearer.

As for technique, I recommend using your thumb for the bass notes of each chord, while your index and middle fingers handle the two-note harmonies. The ring finger comes into play for three-note chords and the occasional notes on the second string. On the left hand, the most crucial fingers are the ring finger, which acts as a pivot when transitioning between chords, and the index finger. In my opinion, this song is a fantastic way to strengthen your half-barre technique.

As always, you can find the tabs on Patreon — have fun learning!
