The Mountain - Shawn Mendes

Hello everyone, and welcome to this new tutorial!

You might be wondering why I’ve posted two tutorials in a single day. Well, the answer is simple: as soon as I realized I could be the first to upload a tutorial for a recently released song, I didn’t think twice and went ahead with the video.

The song in question is "The Mountain" by Shawn Mendes, but specifically the version from the YouTube video released last Friday, featuring just guitar and vocals.

Let’s start with the tuning: it’s standard tuning, with no capo, except for the second string, which you’ll need to raise by a semitone (from B to C).

As for the right hand, there’s no need to use the ring finger unless you want to use it to play the first string open. I’ve tried to indicate the most relevant ghost notes, but the key to this piece is keeping the flow of the arpeggio.

Regarding the left hand, I’ve done my best to replicate the same fingering Shawn uses in the video. There are only four easy-to-play chords, so I don’t think there’s much else to explain on that front.
