Restless Wind - Passenger

Yes, it’s true — my dream of creating tablatures for all the tracks from Passenger’s album Sometimes It’s Something, Sometimes It’s Nothing at All is still alive and well. This time, I’m excited to share a tutorial for Restless Wind, the opening track of the album.

If you enjoyed the fingerpicking pattern of Helplessly Lost, with its hammer-ons and pull-offs, you’re going to love this one too. The rhythm is quite similar, but in my opinion, Restless Wind features more captivating chords and a few extra shift slides that make it even more special.

As always, I recommend starting by learning the bassline, which you’ll play with your thumb, before building up the full fingerpicking pattern. For the complete arpeggio, all you’ll need are your thumb, index, and middle fingers on your right hand. Occasionally, the ring finger comes in handy for notes on the high E string, but it’s not always necessary. As for the left hand, you’ll notice in the video that I play the G major chord with my middle finger on the third fret of the low E string. However, you don’t have to follow my technique exactly — choose the fingering that makes it easiest for you to transition to the next chord.

Have fun learning!
