It’s hard to get around the wind - Alex Turner

Hi everyone, and welcome to this new guitar tutorial! This time we're looking at it’s hard to get around the wind by Alex Turner — and it's probably the longest tutorial I've published so far.

Don’t let the length scare you though — all the chords are quite simple, apart from those played on the 5th and 7th fret during the interlude. In that section, I recommend "sacrificing" the last note of each arpeggiated chord to make the transition from one chord to the next smoother.

The real challenge lies in the right-hand picking pattern. Since the original track is performed by two guitars, I tried to combine both parts into a single guitar arrangement based on what you hear in the studio version.

As a general rule, remember that your thumb should play the bottom three strings, while your index, middle, and ring fingers take care of the top three. The only exception, as always, is the D (or D minor) chord, where the thumb reaches up to play the third string. There’s also a new little exception in this song — in those patterns where four notes are played on four ascending strings (from lowest to highest), I recommend using thumb, index, middle, and ring finger in order. This avoids having to use the thumb twice in a row, which could slow down your arpeggio.

I think that’s all there is to say about this one. You’ll find the tabs on my Patreon page, as always. Have fun learning!
