Detectorists - Johnny Flynn
Hey everyone, and welcome to this new tutorial! I hope you’ve had a chance to rest this past week because starting this Saturday, I’ll be posting one tutorial every week.
Today, I’m bringing you a tutorial on Detectorists by Johnny Flynn. This song comes from the TV show of the same name, which, to be honest, I haven’t watched. I actually discovered the song thanks to a request from one of my YouTube subscribers (the same person who suggested Be Good or Be Gone — great taste!).
I should also mention that this track isn’t exactly easy to learn, especially due to the high notes. For that reason, I recommend starting by learning the bass line first and then gradually adding the higher notes. In the video, I’ve made sure to include all the hammer-ons and pull-offs, but they’re not all strictly necessary — especially those in the bridge section.
One important tip I’d like to offer is to keep your middle finger on the third fret of the second string during the chorus. That’s the common note between the B minor and D major chords, and it’ll help make the transition between the two chords much smoother.
I’ll leave the YouTube link here, and I wish you the best of luck in your practice!
