triassic love song - Paris Paloma

“triassic love song” is one of the tracks from Paris Paloma’s debut album, Cacophony, which was recommended to me by a friend. Intrigued by both the title and the song’s lyrics, I decided to do some research and stumbled upon a beautiful story behind it.

The song draws inspiration from the famous “Triassic cuddle,” a 250-million-year-old fossil that preserves the remains of a protomammal and an amphibian. The two creatures were found side by side, as if caught in a tender embrace. Paleontologists believe that the amphibian may have sought refuge in the same burrow as the protomammal, and together they were unexpectedly trapped by a flood. Their bodies were buried in sediment, forever frozen in this poignant position. While it’s impossible to know if they were truly embracing each other in their final moments or if their arrangement was pure chance, the fossil has become a symbol of connection and intimacy that stretches across millennia.

With this story in mind, the song takes on a new dimension. It’s as if these two ancient creatures were reincarnated as human beings who have found each other once again — and fallen in love. What more can I say? It’s a masterpiece.

Below, I’ve included a photo of the fossil and a link to the song — give it a listen!
