Jedi Knights - Olly Parker

Southwest singer-songwriter Olly Parker is an artist I discovered thanks to a recommendation from a friend. I recently fell in love with his EP "Notebook," which features deeply moving lyrics and intricate acoustic guitar arpeggios. It's not an exaggeration to say that his style reminds me of Passenger.

Moving on to my favorite track from the EP, although "Jedi Knights" may seem like a whimsical title for a folk song, it encapsulates the essence of the story it tells. The song narrates the story of two best friends who once engaged in playful lightsaber duels. As they grew older, they became entangled in the darker aspects of adolescence, including substance abuse. The song reflects on the difficult realization that sometimes, in order to avoid being pulled into destructive behavior, one must let go of a friend. The contrast between the carefree chord progressions and melodies with the depth of the lyrics is truly remarkable.

I'll leave the link to the song below, along with a little extra: a video of the acoustic version of the track, showcasing also Olly's skills on the guitar.
