if i wasn’t made for love - néomí
In my blog post about the song Tattoo, I mentioned that Will Knox was the artist of my first concert in the Netherlands. However, technically speaking, the first artist I heard live in the Netherlands wasn’t Will—it was Neomi, who opened the show for him.
It was during that performance that I discovered Neomi’s debut single, If I Wasn’t Made for Love. This song is essentially poetry set to music. As the title suggests, it’s a deeply introspective reflection on whether one is truly made for love or not. Love, as we all know, can sometimes lead to moments of confusion and heartache, especially when it isn’t reciprocated despite the effort poured into it.
The arrangement of the song is a perfect example of a rising crescendo. It begins with a delicate guitar arpeggio (in D A D F# A D tuning) and Neomi’s emotive voice, gradually building in intensity. The addition of the cello and layered backing vocals enhances the emotional weight, leading the song to a powerful and moving peak by the end.
Since that first encounter, I’ve attended four more of Neomi’s gigs, and every single one has been an absolute pleasure.
I’ll leave the link to the song below — don’t miss it!
