Heartbreakdown - SYML
Hey everyone, and welcome to this new tutorial!
In case it wasn’t already obvious, I’m pretty obsessed with SYML—this is actually the fourth time I’ve chosen one of his songs for a tutorial. This time, we’re looking at Heartbreakdown, one of the singles released ahead of his upcoming album Nobody Lives Here, which is set to be released in April.
I really wanted to be one of the first to publish tabs for this song, just like I did with The Mountain by Shawn Mendes.
Now, getting into the details—if you've already learned some of SYML’s other songs through my tutorials, you’ll find this guitar part incredibly easy. It follows the same chord progression and fingerpicking pattern as You and I, played with the thumb, index, and middle fingers (with the thumb only handling the last three strings).
If you check out what is currently the only live performance video of this song, you’ll notice that SYML presses the second fret of the last string with the index finger of his left hand (which also places his middle finger on the second fret of the third string). Personally, I prefer using my left-hand thumb to press the second fret of the last string and my middle finger for the second fret of the third string. But feel free to do whatever feels most comfortable for you!
