Ordinary World - Green Day

As some you might have noticed, I have a soft spot for acoustic songs that wrap up rock albums, a trait that I noticed in bands like Red Hot Chili Peppers in their albums ‘Californication’ and ‘Unlimited Love’.

Green Day, a band that holds a special place in my musical journey, offered their take with ‘Ordinary World’ from their album Revolution Radio.

The song is a departure from the usual power chords and explosive energy, opting instead for simplicity - both in terms of melodies and lyrics. You wouldn’t even expect a song like this from them. Not surprisingly, there have been divisive opinions swirling online.

But for me, it’s special because it’s the only song that i know by Green Day based just on guitar and voice and it’s reminiscent of the raw intimacy found also in ‘Tangelo’ by Red Hot Chili Peppers. I love these kinds of parallels between songs by different artists.
