Earl Bowman - We Get Along
Once again, I have to thank PlaylistPush for introducing me to the music of Earl Bowman so early on. Alt-country music is a rare treat.
Bowman, a singer/songwriter from Louisville, Kentucky, is the protagonist of this song, and he sings about his relationship with his job, his wife, and weed. His tune is an exception in Best Acoustic Guitar Songs because it's a humorous and up-tempo song. The influence of Jerry Reed is evident, as both the guitar playing and the melodies are tongue-in-cheek.
My favorite verse is obviously the one that goes "My momma said son go finish that degree and I said no momma I love you but this guitar and me we get along", followed by an incredible guitar solo. It reminds me of my own days of skipping studying to play the guitar.
With this song, Earl reminds us that sometimes it's healthier to laugh at our problems than to cry about them. Do yourself a favour and check it out!
For those of you who are interested, here is also a video of a short stripped back version of the song :)
