Best Acoustic Covers - September 2025
September gave us just three new acoustic covers, one less than the past few months, but all of them are absolutely worth highlighting.
These Days - Muireann Bradley
The first one comes from Muireann Bradley with her version of These Days. Fun fact: this song is a sort of “meta cover.” It was first recorded by Nico in 1967, even though the lyrics were written by a then-16-year-old Jackson Browne, who only released his own version six years later. Honestly, I didn’t know this myself until recently! Muireann’s take, built around her Travis-picking guitar style, stays closer to Nico’s original than to Browne’s strummed version, and the result is tender and timeless.
Big Black Car - At Home Version - The Wildwoods
Next up is Big Black Car by The Wildwoods, who are making their first appearance in this series—and very deservedly so. Their rendition is a little gem for acoustic music lovers. The arrangement keeps the iconic Gregory Alan Isakov guitar arpeggio at its heart, adds upright bass and pizzicato violin, and ties it all together with gorgeous three-part vocal harmonies. Those harmonies are, in my opinion, what make all their songs shine.
How You Remind Me - Acoustic - trolly
And finally, How You Remind Me by trolly. Forget the rock arrangement of Nickelback’s 2001 hit; trolly strips it all down and turns it into pure acoustic pleasure. Simple, raw, and so easy to enjoy.
That wraps up August’s picks—fewer than usual, but sometimes three songs are all you need. Which one’s your favorite?
